Patricia Gail (Wood) Austin Onofrio

July 25, 1941 ~ February 25, 2018 (age 76)

Patricia Gail Wood Austin Onofrio, 76, passed away on Sunday February 25, 2018. She was born in Caldwell County, NC and was raised in Belmont. She attended N. Belmont Elementary and was a 1959 graduate of Belmont High School.  Pat was the daughter of the late Bessie Bollinger Wood Coleman and John Early Wood.  Pat was preceded in death by her husband Max Donald Austin and sisters Faye W. Baucom and Juanita W. Jonas.

Survivors include husband, Daniel Onofrio of Mount Holly daughter, Kelli Austin Traywick and husband Scott of Mt. Holly. Granddaughters, Erin Traywick of Gastonia, Emily Traywick Zolotarev and husband Sergey of Fort Mill, SC and Elizabeth Traywick of Mt. Holly.  One great-grandchild due to arrive March 1. Brother Bill Wood, and wife Ruth of Mt. Holly and a number of nieces and nephews.  3 step daughters, DelMarie Wehner and husband Todd of Raleigh.  Darlene Tracey of Upland, CA.  Denise Onofrio of Lawrence Kansas.  6 step grandchildren and 8 step great grandchildren.

Pat was a very social person.  She loved to dance and make people laugh.  She volunteered at the East Gaston Adult Day Center, and had a special group of friends there.  She was a founding member of the Charlotte Women’s Traffic Club and the Belmont Historical Society.  After retiring from Cargo Brokers International, in Charlotte, she achieved a dream of hers by opening up a small consignment store.  She got more enjoyment from talking to customers, than actually selling anything.  The family would like to thank the staff of Robin Johnson House for their tender loving care throughout Pat’s illness. Pat was a very loved and special person.  She will be missed more than she will ever know.


A service to celebrate the life of Pat will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at Christ Church at River’s Edge, formerly East Belmont Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Belmont. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorials can be made to Robin Johnson Hospice House.
