Katherine Farris Moyle, 87, passed away peacefully at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House on July 21, 2018. She is survived by devoted sister, Evelyn Newman of Charlotte NC; step-daughter Jacqueline Auten and husband Laurie of Hendersonville NC, and step-son John F. Moyle of Charlotte NC, from her marriage to the late Jack O. Moyle; step-daughter Louise Crawford Mead and husband John of Johnstown PA,from her previous marriage to the late David B. Crawford, Sr.; nephews Michael Farris of Belmont NC, Todd Farris and his wife Mandy of Mt. Holly NC, and David Farris of Charlotte NC; numerous Moyle and Crawford grand-children, great grand-children, nieces, nephews, great-nephews and great-nieces; and devoted friends Eddie and Robin Rhom and son Morgan of Mt. Holly NC, Ray and Barbara Stevanus, Tom and Boots Simmons of Charlotte NC, and Vance and Kathy Threatt and daughter Hallie of Charlotte NC, and her extended church family at Covenant United Methodist Church. She was predeceased by parents Charles and Ruth Farris, brother Jack Farris, husband Jack O. Moyle, previous husband David B. Crawford, Sr., all of Charlotte NC, and Crawford step-children David B. Crawford, Jr. of New York, NY, and Marie C. Phifer of Columbia SC.
Katherine graduated from Thomasboro High School. She went on to become an accomplished business woman, serving as Secretary-Treasurer, President-Treasurer, and eventually CEO of Crawford Sprinkler Company/Standard Fire Protection Equipment Company. As her business career ended, Katherine devoted herself passionately to serving her church and her community. As Treasurer of her church, Covenant United Methodist, she diligently managed the finances and financial records of her church, until her declining health compelled her to relinquish those responsibilities. She also participated in Communities of Shalom, a community outreach of the United Methodist Church, regularly visited church and family members who were ill and/or confined to their homes, regularly assisted church and family friends with their finances and tax returns, volunteered as a reading buddy at Thomasboro Elementary, and always was a welcoming and encouraging resource to all who approached her.
A service celebrating Katherine’s life will be held at Covenant United Methodist Church, 6824 Tuckeseegee Road, CharlotteNC 28214 at noon on Friday, July 27, 2018. Family visitation will be at 11 a.m. that morning at the church. The service will be followed by a graveside interment service in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Jeffrey S. Painter Funeral Director Licensee LLC, Mt. Holly NC.
