Stephen Barnett, 63, passed away on Thursday April 12, 2018 at the Robin Johnson Hospice House in Dallas, NC. He was born in Sunbury, Pennsylvania, son of the late Glenn and Stella Barnett Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his older brother Skip Barnett.
He is survived by 3 sisters Natalie Hicks and husband Thurston of Alexis, Linda Griggs of Columbia, SC and Krista Barnett of Mount Holly. 2 brothers Gene Hoagland of Bremerton, Washington and Ronda Barnett of Stanley and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Steve was a loving brother with a kind and gentle soul. He had a lifelong love of hunting and fishing but his greatest joy was cooking and baking. He enjoyed baking pies and cobblers but his favorite joy was making jams and jelly to give away to family and friends.
He spent many a happy evening with friends at the American Legion Post 266 in Stanley, where he was a member of the Sons of the American Legion. Steve had a great sense of humor and everyone enjoyed his dry wit and funny observations on life. He was deeply loved and will be missed by all.
Steve struggled with health issues in the past several years and the family wishes to recognize the special care given to him by his primary care physician Gina Ramsey, DNP,FNP-C and his pulmonary specialist Dr. Carmine Dalto. The family also wishes to thank the special care provided by the personnel at the Robin Johnson Hospice House in Dallas. But most of all, we thank his many friends and neighbors for all their care, concern, assistance and prayers during his last days. A more loving and caring group of people could not be found. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gaston Hospice or to the Humane Society.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Barnett will be held 2:00pm Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Mount Holly First United Methodist Church with Pastor Mike Carr officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
