Ann Marie Venable, 79 of Monroe, NC passed peacefully away on March 20, 2020. Born on April 30, 1940 in Bridgeport, CT; daughter of the late Frederick Luckett and Florence Hamel Luckett. Ann’s earliest career was spent working with special needs children and teaching ceramics. She also worked in Real Estate for several years. Later, she was co-owner/operator of Carolina Well Drilling, successfully running the company for more than 15 years. She subsequently owned and operated Shades of Expressions hair salon in North Myrtle Beach, which was a true reflection of her stylish presence. Ann spent her retirement enjoying cooking and baking for her grateful family; famous for her Chex Mix, Reubens and 10 lb decadent cheesecakes. She had a passion for gardening and took great pleasure in keeping her birdfeeders well stocked in spite of the squirrels and raccoons that tried to thwart her. Ann was a movie enthusiast with over a thousand titles in her collection, and one might speculate she was addicted to the Hallmark and Lifetime Channels as well as Grey’s Anatomy. However nothing gave her more pleasure than being surrounded by generations of loving family and impromptu visits by her children, grand-children and great-grandchildren. Whether it be older grand-children popping in for a coffee or wine, or a knock from a little one next door asking if she “got any cookies in there”, this was her greatest pleasure and lasting legacy.
Ann was a loving mother to 3 children, and was preceded in death by her daughter Pamela Kletter Penegar, 33 and her grandson Jason Penegar, 24. She is survived by her sister Jane Luckett Vanderbush, her sons Carl (Skip) Kletter (Marylynn) and Michael Kletter (Carolyn), as well as 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and other beloved family and friends, particularly Mark and Vickie Penegar.
A graveside service will be held at Lakeland Memorial Park, 1901 Lancaster Ave. Monroe, NC on March 26, 2020 at 2:00 pm.
