Dana Whitesides Gardner, 51, passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday, February 2, 2020 .
A daughter of the late Melvin and Martha Whitesides of Mount Holly, she was born October 24, 1968. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 34 years, Kim Gardner of the home, sons Jonathan Gardner (Shannon), grandchildren Megan and Troy of Clinton, NC, Jacob Gardner and his fiancé Alexis Caliendo of Raleigh, NC, and granddaughter Katelyn Gardner of Mt. Holly. She also leaves behind her siblings, sister Carol Vinson (Mike), brother Pete Whitesides (Cathy) of Mt. Holly, brother Mike Whitesides and sister Lori Bingham, of Gastonia. Also left to cherish her memory are numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as special friends and co-workers.
Dana worked in the technology field her entire career, starting out as an administrative assistant for Memorex Telex. She went back to school, furthered her education, and taught for many years as a Computer Engineering teacher at Central Academy of Technology & Arts in Monroe and Highland School of Technology in Gastonia before leaving teaching to return to the private sector, most recently at C3i Solutions in Kings Mountain.
Dana had a soft spot for animals. Throughout her life she had horses, a pig, chickens, snakes, stray cats and her beloved dogs. She leaves behind six of her precious furbabies; Otis, Tess, Crook, Mira, Gracie, and Brutal. Two of her greatest pleasures were her dogs and fishing. Our father raised hunting dogs and loved to fish. She was the first one to jump when fishing was mentioned.
